Is Bicarb right for me?
Bicarbonate can be used in training and competition for sports requiring intermittent or constant intensity near or above the anaerobic threshold. It can also be used in interval (threshold) training for all types of endurance sports to promote adaptation. Although some athletes have reported positive results, the use of bicarbonate in prolonged steady-state endurance events, such as marathons or long-distance triathlons, is still being researched.

The science behind
High-intensity exercise causes a buildup of hydrogen ions (H+), which lowers muscle pH. This process is called acidosis, which negatively impacts performance.
Taking sodium bicarbonate can increase blood bicarbonate levels and blood pH, which promotes the removal of H+ ions from the muscles. This allows for better control of muscle pH, a major benefit for strength training and racing.

What portion do I need?
The Maurten Bicarb system is available in different serving sizes: 12, 15, 19, 22, and 25. There is no one-size-fits-all. The number indicated corresponds to the amount of bicarbonate contained in each serving.

Components of the Bicarb System
The Maurten Bicarb system consists of three components: the bowl (A), the hydrogel (B), and the bicarbonate (C). Each box of the Maurten Bicarb system contains 4 servings of components B and C. Component A is reusable.
