WHEN TO CHANGE YOUR RUNNING SHOES?

We all have a favorite pair that we put in the miles… until one day the joy of running gives way to pain , unusual fatigue , or a strange feeling underfoot. So, how do you know when to say goodbye to your running shoes? Here are the signs to look out for and some tips to avoid injury.

New sensations while running?

Tender knees, stiff back, unusual muscle fatigue?

When cushioning loses its effectiveness, the body often feels it before signs of wear are visible. These are sometimes the first signs that it's time to upgrade your pair.

Stay tuned to your feelings .

The mileage

A training shoe can last on average 800 to 1200 km , but:

Your weight : The heavier the stride, the faster the cushioning collapses.

Your running technique : A runner who pronates or supinates will wear one side of the sole more, which can unbalance the shoe.

The terrain : running on asphalt , a very hard surface, compresses the cushioning faster than trails.

If you run with a GPS watch or app, add your shoes to your gear to easily track their mileage.

Alternate your shoes

Next step: manage your shoe rotation to keep them longer and get the most out of each outing.

Each pair has time to “rest” between two outings.

Less stress = lasting cushioning + injury prevention.

Result: your shoes last longer, and your body thanks you.

Visible wear

      Deep creases in the sole

      Asymmetrical wear (inside/outside)

Instability when the shoe is placed on the ground

Sole coming off, holes, or weakened support

If any of these signs appear, don't wait for the injury to occur before taking action .

A new shoe is good.

A shoe that fits your foot, your stride, and your goals is even better. It's an investment in your health and performance.
